Reading and Writing (Activity VI)

Are we like Frankenstein? Do we create monsters and run away from them in the hopes that they will go away? Or are we like the creature, hating our creator and our very own existence? How often do we fear what we don’t understand? How often are we repulsed by ugliness? How often do we try to excuse our unbecoming behavior towards others?

I believe that in some way we are like Frankenstein in what we do, we choose to ignore or make problems that aren’t real to not have to face the truth. But at the same time we are like creatures, we are afraid of being alone and it terrifies us to our core. We also react to ugliness quite badly, we tend to judge on appearances alot instead of getting to know the person. We like to excuse our behavior towards other people because of the strong reaction we have to them, it is quite sad to see the behavior people have to others just because of how they look.

Frankenstein’s isolation:

According to the text,  why is there “tragedy, murder and despair” in the novel?

Tragedy because the monster ends up even more alone, murder because they both die at the end, and despair because of the loneliness that the monster and victor make each other feel.

What might happen to a person who becomes isolated from society? Your mind looses the sense of rules and you believe you don’t need rules, doing this makes you become unstable, lose yourself and in this case go mad.

Do all humans need contact with others of the same kind? Yes, because it is in our DNA, even animals need of others.

How long do you think someone could remain without some sort of human contact? It depends on the person could range from a few months, to years.

Could this cause hatred or fear?  Explain. Yes, i believe with enough isolation, you become cold and hateful onto yourself and others.

How long could YOU remain isolated from family and friends? A few days to be fully honest.

How would you feel? I would go mad, i would count days, minutes, hours waiting for someone to show up, call, or text me.

Composition: Memes

Teenagers mostly use Twitter or just the internet/google for the news now. That can lead to the lack of seeing the news and can cause a lot of misinformation. Jamie Withorne, a research assistant at the Middlebury Institute Center for Nonproliferation Studies, says that news related memes seem to tick all the boxes in the sense of socializing and entertainment by diluting them. It can make Politifact information appear, as in Multiple different facts made by different people. CNN 10 is an online news program that explains every day’s news in 10 minutes. Do you agree with the following statement?  “[Memes] are a valuable tool not only for young people but also for national security practitioners.” Yes because they make you laugh and have a good time plus you can send them to pretty much anyone. I believe my friends usually see their news on the internet. I get my news via The morning news and trustful pages of news on the internet.
