Reading and Writing Task #12: “Pro and Con: Banned Books”

Personally I don’t believe books should be banned. If the language or context is considered bad for children then just put it in the adults section and educate the children about why these things shout be said and such. But banning books because they talk about “uncomfortable” topic I find to be ridiculous. Growing up I was encouraged to read books that are for older people, but I was explained the context of the time that they were written in. If the had to do with race, I was told why now the opinions they have are not correct. I believe that it’s not right to ban books, if we take the time to explain the books it would be easier, and of course parents can choose to restrict certain books if they find it correct but to entirely ban them to every person because a couple don’t like them is ridiculous.

Assessment: #10 Facts and fake news: How to tell the difference

This article talks about how during the pandemic there was a lot of misinformation going around and people would believe them. Then it tells us how we can tell the difference between fake news and factual news. First it tells us to look past the title and to look past our own biases because that can make us see the news as truthful instead of analyzing it instead. It also tells us to check the source of the information which is something we have to do for many works, we have to make sure we are sure of the information we are writing about. A couple of fake news outlets can be links ending in .com and .yahoo, these are examples of fake news that are not checked by true sources. A couple of factual links can be .org and .Edu, these are places that are usually more trustworthy given they are pages that are researched and known as good for information.

How many non-confidential websites exist?

Are the daily news outlets factual information?

How many people follow misinformation?

Assessment #8: Activity 4

Tittle: Lessons learned from a unpleasant experience.

An experience that I consider have been a painful emotionally was when I separated from my friends group of many years in the tenth grade. Situations and respect was lost in the process, people took sides and only one of my friends and me stayed together. For that friend I am very grateful to have, I also learned that sometimes things happen for a reason. I realized things that were wrong in the past friendships that I allowed and thought were ok but ultimately weren’t. I say things more now and if something bugs me I try to process it and then attack the situation instead of acting only on emotions. I think in the moment it hurt but now I have grown from it and I am better for it, it taught me that I should express myself better and to not let people walk over my feelings. It hurt I won’t lie but now I have reached a sense of indifference with those ex friends, I might even talk with a few, it’s not the same as before and it won’t ever be again but it’s civil.

Reading/Writing Task #9: Quotes: January 2023

13-1-2023: If you could go back in time when would you go back too.

17-1-2023: Time is something too few understand usually when it’s too late. ~~LMM

19-1-2023: For those who have little time, every minute is precious.

23-1-2023: Time wasted is time lost.

25-1-2023: The life lessons thrown in our path will determine the kind of person we will become.

I like the quotes that have to do with time because I feel like time is something we rarely talk about, but it is so important in our lives. We are always wondering when the time is going to come, and when the time for others will come and time it’s such an important thing we rarely pay enough attention to. As someone who has known lost people it’s not easy to think about time without thinking. Wow I would’ve done this, I would’ve done that, but you have to learn to live with the fact that you did what you did in the time you had.

My favorite quote  was probably time wasted is time lost because it is so true.  Time that you do not use to your advantage or doing the things that you love spending it with those you love is wasting your time doing nothing just laying there. It’s kind of selfish to not use your time to make something of yourself. There’s so many people that wish for more time knowing they could’ve done better and they don’t get more time. Time is so important and relevant and it doesn’t have as much importance in our lives as we think it does.

1st Day Writing Exercise: Story (Lego image)

(M, beginning story)In San Juan, Puerto Rico, a kid called Tommy loved cars. He had an obsession with hot wheels and big cars, especially red ones. He thought that red was the color that made cars faster. One day, he asks his mom if he could drive a big car. But mom said no because he was only six years old. Tommy was sad, he loved cars and his dream was to drive them, like adults. All adults could drive and have their big cars. A few days later, on his birthday, he asked if he could be an adult. When he became an adult, he continued to be obsessed with his cars. Tommy felt sad but at the same time waiting for his parent’s response. After a long wait, Tommy got his first car and to his surprise, it was red. After some days, he picks up his savings and starts modifying his new car.

Tommy then noticed he needed a piece for the car and that was the motor and set off to find one. Tommy started on his journey to find the perfect motor for his car. He didn’t want just any motor, he wanted an ANAKEI 360 motor for his car but the problem was he didn’t know when would find it. He looked high and low, across the sea and the mountains until finally. Finally one found a little shop that sold the perfect motor for him. At the shop he saw a pretty lady working on a car in the back shop. He saw her and thought this was the most beautiful person he’s ever seen, he called over to her and she looked back at him. She asked if he needed something because she was midway through a job. He said no and stood nervously and she continued on with her work. After a while and a long mental speech Tommy gave to himself he got the courage to ask her out. Surprising enough to him she said yeah. They went on a date and after a few years of working together and dating they got married, they continued to work with the shop, now making it into a bigger and better shop.
